Careers guidance and access for education and training providers Statutory guidance for schools and guidance for further education colleges and sixth form colleges July 2021 White paper Skills for jobs: lifelong learning for opportunity and growth (Jan 2023) Policy: |
This policy statement sets out the school’s arrangements for managing the access of providers to pupils at the school for the purpose of giving them information about the provider’s education or training offer. This complies with the school’s legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997 and has also considered the amendments outlined in the most recent update of the Statutory Guidance (July 2021).
Pupil entitlement All pupils in years 7-13 are entitled:
-
to find out about technical educational qualifications and apprenticeships opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of educational and training options available at each transition point;
-
to hear directly from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships
-
to understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses.
Management of provider access requests Procedure
A provider wishing to request access should contact Sarah Baxter-Williams (Deputy Headteacher) who will then liaise with the leadership team to consider the request.
Telephone: 0115 925 2698; Email:office@chilwellschool.co.uk
The Careers Advisor will also ensure that pupils and parents are signposted to relevant website information on providers and will disseminate printed information as required.
Safeguarding
Providers are expected to comply with the school’s safeguarding policy. DBS checks are not normally required for a ‘one-off’ school visit however we may require a level of supervision to take place which will be considered on an individual event basis.
Opportunities for access
A number of events, integrated into the school careers programme, will offer providers an opportunity to come into school and speak to students. These are reviewed on an annual basis. There is also some flexibility in the Programme which allows us to consider requests outside of these signposted activities, which can be discussed if a provider contacts the Deputy Headteacher
