Y6 online meeting
On Thursday 20th June at 6.00pm, we will hold the second of our online events for parents of children joining us in year seven in September. Again we have been asked to increase our numbers to accommodate the demand in the local area and so we look forward to welcoming over two hundred students after the summer break, In the meantime there are transition events taking place and a series of information sessions for children and their parents. Parents will be contacted next week with details of how to log in to the session.
Broxtowe Hustings
We were pleased to host a hustings for Broxtowe on Tuesday with five of the seven candidates for the role of MP for our area. Thank you to everyone who attended and for the questions that were submitted. It was really pleasing to be able to offer this service to our community and the discussion was engaging, varied and thought-provoking.
The future of education
On Thursday and Friday, I have been in Sheffield discussing the future of education with school leaders from across the country. In under three weeks, we will have a new government in place and they will be facing the challenge of having to deal with the shortage of funding, teachers and the crisis in special educational needs provision. We are calling for education to be a priority for the incoming government and I would ask that where possible you raise this with those who hope to represent us.
Learn with the Lords visit
With a focus on parliament very much on our minds, we are delighted to be having a visit next week from Lord Mott, who served on the Lords Select Committee for Public Services up to the dissolution of the current parliament on 30th May. He will be speaking to our year eight students about the work of the House of Lords and how it operates in our democracy.
Singing festival
Next week we will be joining with our primary schools for a singing festival at John Clifford School. Last year was a wonderful event and we are looking forward to sharing songs together and celebrating the power of music.
