Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate visit
On Friday we were really pleased to welcome Juliet Campbell to the school on a visit to find out more about the issues facing schools. We invite elected and potential elected representatives into school when we are open. We were pleased to welcome Anna Soubry when she was Conservative MP in 2018 and it was good to meet with Juliet Campbell today. We toured the school and discussed the significant issues facing the education sector and how these might be resolved by a Labour government. It was also good to share in the moment of remembrance as part of this visit.

Post Looked After Funding and Pupil Premium Funding (free school meal)

It is for those with parental responsibility to decide if they wish to self-declare their children's post-looked status to schools. This information is kept confidential within school but would give your child an additional £2,530 of funding per academic year.  Please note that families need to re-self-declare when their child moves school. Battlefields trip
At the end of half term, forty of our students took a trip to the battlefields of northern France and Belgium. After a long day's journey on Saturday, the students visited war graves on the Sunday before visiting Sanctuary Wood and then heard the last post at the Menin Gate. With a further visit to memorials on Monday, the students were on their way home by Monday evening.

Remembrance
On Friday, Chilwell School undertook its own act of remembrance, with the school becoming still whilst the Last Post was played. Whether students were in their lessons or out at break, there was a peace as we undertook some reflection and remembrance of all those who have lost their lives in conflict. The sound of the trumpet was the only sound across our site as the school fell silent.

GCSE Revision session
We will be holding an online revision session for parents of year eleven students next Thursday 16th November at 7.00pm. It will be an opportunity to hear from our assistant head teacher, Mr Moore, about revision strategies and from some of our faculty leaders about effective resources and preparation. With the mock examinations only a month away, we hope that this session will benefit parents in helping students get into a regular pattern of revision. A link to the session will be sent to parents on the day.

Free mental health webinars from Charlie Waller supporting young people with ADHD
An increasing number of children and young people are being identified as having attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and there have been reports of a 400% increase in adults seeking diagnosis for ADHD.
The webinars will explore:

• What ADHD is
• How ADHD may overlap with other conditions
• Factors which may influence the development of ADHD
• How we can help support children and young people who are diagnosed with or may meet the criteria of ADHD
• Self-care for supporters

Data check
We informed parents last month that we would be carrying out a data check to ensure we have the most accurate and up to date information. Parents were sent an invite to our School Information Management System that came from noreply@sims.co.uk . If you have not responded yet, please do so. You will only see the children that live with you, each parent will need to log in and check their personal details separately - this is a GDPR requirement.

Discovery Day
Next Wednesday will be the first of our discovery days, with year groups engaged in a range of off timetable activities. Days like this offer the opportunity for trips and visits as well as covering a number of curricular and extra-curricular activities in tutor and year groups.

Year ten parents evening
Advance notice that the online year ten parents evening will take place on Thursday 23rd November. Parents will receive booking details shortly.

Activities Week
Thank you for the magnificent response to the activities available in activities week next summer. The deadline for choosing activities was Wednesday. Activities will be confirmed next week and then reopen for anyone who has not applied.

Toilets
The new arrangements for toilets have gone down well with students this week. With some further decoration over the half-term break, we are pleased that students are finding the facilities accessible and welcoming.

Road markings
Parents will have noticed the road markings which show clearly the areas where parents can park and drop off students and more importantly where it is not safe to stop. Thank you to everyone who is complying with this. 

Children in Need Day
Next Friday is Children in Need Day. We will be asking students to wear something "Spotacular" (something spotty) and bring a voluntary donation (recommended £1.00)
