Thank you for ensuring that students were prepared for the weather. Having sent out the message last week to leave blazers at home, I was pleased to see students enjoying the weather sensibly and keeping safe.

The school buildings do not lend themselves well to staying cool and so we have moved a number of classes from warmer parts of the school. 

Apologies for the Sunday update, but it appears that the big drop in temperatures and rain that I was led to believe will instead only be a small drop and with the probability of thunderstorms in Chilwell this week.

In light of this we will keep the flexibility for students to leave their blazers at home if they wish and in addition, for those students who either:

• feel the heat significantly, or
• are timetabled in English or languages rooms (which are significantly warmer rooms)

there is also the opportunity to come to school in school PE kit.

This will remain the case throughout this week. The above offers flexibility to students whilst the weather is warm. Please also be prepared for rain!

Transition evening

Last night we held the second of our online transition evenings and Mrs Baxter-Williams, Mr Jay and Mr Hobbs gave some further updates on what to expect over the next few months and once students join us in September.

National issues

On Thursday and Friday, I was again with colleague school leaders from across the country, discussing the central issues that are facing schools. The concern about levels of funding continues and how schools will plan into the next few years with more children and increasing costs. It is a continuing issue, but I was also pleased to meet with some of our new staff earlier this week and to hear from them about their welcome to the school and how quickly they have settled in. It is good to feel that we are managing and developing in challenging circumstances.

Autism & ADHD Parent/Carer Support Groups

There are a number of groups across the county set up by the Neuro-development behaviour support service and information on local groups can be found below. There are more groups across the county and so for further information, please contact them.

Uniform

We continue to look at ways to minimise costs of school uniform for families and as part of this we would like to ask again this year that year eleven students donate their blazers and ties so that we ensure we have a stock in school to support other families and we appreciate all donations. As a little incentive we are holding a uniform raffle in school on Monday 26th June as part of the leavers event. Every year eleven student who hands in their tie will receive one raffle ticket and every year eleven student who hands in their blazer will receive 5 raffles tickets. The raffle will be drawn in the leavers assembly and the lucky winner will receive a £50 Amazon voucher.

We will be collecting these items and issuing raffle tickets today (16th June) after the physics exam, or as students come to the leavers assembly on the 26th.
