Welcome to Chilwell School

Share, Care, Believe, Achieve

13th May 2022

This morning we gathered with the whole of year eleven as a lead up to the first formal examination on Monday. It was a real pleasure to be with them and we wish all of our students the best for the examinations starting next week.

There are a number of important dates ahead for year eleven and thirteen and we will be available to support students as we move through the next two weeks and then into study leave after half-term. Results days in the summer break will be staffed by our examination team and senior staff to offer guidance on next steps including receiving timetables and chrome books for those staying with us into sixth form.

Toilet refurbishment

We have already begun work on refurbishing toilets within the school and this will mean a complete refit and brightening of the facilities so that students have easy access to toilets during the day.

Vacancies

I mentioned last week that we had a number of vacancies including opportunities to work with our lunchtime supervision team. Information is now available for a range of opportunities with us.

End of year assessments

Information will be coming home today for key stage three and on Monday for year ten regarding the end of year assessments. This will be an opportunity for students to undertake the revision process, show what they can do and receive results before the end of the summer term.

County Cup

I was really pleased to be able to get over to the year nine county cup final against Arnold Hill school. Whilst it was disappointing to lose in the final, I was very proud of the achievement of our squad and the way that they played with commitment and determination. They represented the school very proudly.

Change of day pattern for year nine

We will be making changes to the day pattern for year nine from immediately after half-term. Whilst the timetable will remain the same, breaks and lunchtimes will move to the end of the double lessons (at 10.50am and 12.50am) This will allow us to ensure that we have quieter social spaces near the examination areas and also start the arrangements that the year nines will follow when they move into year ten.

Data collection - year seven students

Parents of students in year seven will already have received  early warning that we will be asking for a data check on students in year seven next week. Parents will receive an email on Wednesday to ask for a check that the information we hold on telephone numbers, contact information etc, is accurate and up to date. Thank you in advance for your co-operation with this.

Planning for the future

Our staff meeting this week was a celebration of all the curriculum development that has been undertaken this year in faculties as well as an opportunity to share plans for next academic year and beyond. The school certainly is in a strong position to move into the next phase of our development, with strong structures in place, expert staff and clear plans for extending our provision and building on our strong outcomes.
