Year seven

Year 7 Homework

Timetable & Information

Pupils in Year 7 are set homework in most of their curriculum subjects.

Pupils are required to record the details of this homework in their School Planner, this should include details of the task and due date. We will also use the School’s WeDuc App to communicate homework information to pupils and parents.

Pupils can receive additional support with homework on a Tuesday and Thursday in CR2 afterschool. Pupils will be able to access computers, print worksheets and get help from teachers and support staff. The library is also open at lunchtimes and afterschool.

Pupils who fail to complete homework on time and to the required standard will be set a C2 Consequence (20 minute lunchtime detention) by their class teacher.

The table below indicates possible homework tasks for each subject.

Maths	Every Week	Pupils will be set an online task to complete using either the MyMaths or MathsWatch websites. Login details and passwords for both websites can be found in their planner. Pupils should work through the online revision lesson (MyMaths) or video (MathsWatch) before completing the homework task. All tasks can be repeated to improve the score if necessary and to achieve a ‘green light’. Additional MathsWatch tasks may be set in preparation for, and as follow up to, in class assessments.
English	Fortnightly	English homework is linked to Library lessons and their current reading book. Pupils will select from a varied list of tasks, each with a points value. Pupils have two weeks to read their book and complete their chosen task.
Science	Every Week	Pupils will be set an online task on the Sam Learning website. Login details can be found in their planner. All tasks can be repeated to improve scores. At the start of each topic pupils will be given a list of 10 Key Word which they will need to learn the definitions of and spelling. An optional project based task will be set each half term, related to the topics being studied – Entries will be judged by the Head of Faculty.

Technology Rotation	Fortnightly	For each of the subjects in the Technology Rotation (Art, Food Technology, Resistant Materials), pupils will be set a homework task every two weeks. Art – Pupils choose tasks to complete from the Art Homework Challenge List Food Technology – Weigh ingredients for practical lessons Resistant Materials - Pupils choose tasks to complete from the Resistant Materials Homework Challenge List
Computer Science	Fortnightly	Pupils will be set homework every two weeks and this will complement topics that are covered in lesson including Esafety, Computer Systems, Spreadsheets, Databases and Programming.

English	Fortnightly	Pupils will be set a minimum of 6 tasks over the course of the academic year (2 reading, 2 writing & 2 Literature), mirroring GCSE structured assessment. Additional tasks such as research, comprehension and/or extended reading may be set in support of learning and at the discretion of class teachers.
Science	Every Week	Pupils will be set an online task on the Seneca Learning website. Login details can be found in their planner. All tasks can be repeated to improve scores. At the start of each topic pupils will be given a list of 10 Key Word which they will need to learn the definitions of and spelling. Technology Specialism	Fortnightly	For each Technology Specialism subject (Textiles, Food Technology, Resistant Materials), pupils will be set a homework task every two weeks. Art	Fortnightly	Pupils choose tasks to complete from the Art Homework Challenge List
Computer Science / ICT	Every Week	Pupils studying either IT or Computing and will be set homework once a week and these will be exam based questions to test theory knowledge. Computing students will also be set Programming Challenges instead of exam based questions when the focus is on programming.

KS4

At Key Stage 4 there is not a fixed homework timetable with time allocated for different subjects on different evenings. Homework at Key Stage 4 is an opportunity for pupils to learn how to manage their time so that they complete some homework each evening and that the work is produced to a high standard and in a timely manner. Each subject within a faculty will set meaningful homework tasks when it is appropriate for that subject area.

For homework to be an effective and supportive learning opportunity we recommend that pupils should have approximately 45 minutes homework each week for each subject. Pupils would be expected to complete approximately one and a half hours homework a night.

Sixth form

In the Sixth Form there is not a fixed homework timetable with time allocated for different subjects on different evenings. Homework in the Sixth Form is an opportunity for students to develop their independent learning skills and time management so that they complete some homework each evening and that the work is produced to a high standard and in a timely manner. Each subject within a faculty will set meaningful homework tasks when it is appropriate for that subject area.

For homework to be an effective and supportive learning opportunity we recommend that students in the Sixth Form should complete a minimum of five hours additional study in each subject each week. Students should be expected to complete approximately two hours additional study every day.
