Chilwell 2 - 0 Toot Hill
Fabulous Fendick Football as Chilwell swan into the quarter-finals
"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do." – Pelé
A very cold and blustery Chilwell was the setting for this meeting of two old footballing foes.
Mr Fendick’s golden generation were missing several of their shining lights, meaning a shuffling of the pack was required for this fixture: Duke shifting to centre-back, Ollie A to right back and Alfie U to left wing.
Toot Hill were physically an imposing team, setting up a ‘David and Goliath’ contest especially in the centre of the midfield. Toot Hill's best player was playing in the right wing position meaning Ethan H would have a busy afternoon keeping their talisman at bay.
Early in the first half Lucas ‘The Cat’ C was called into action to deny Toot Hill's number 7 an opening goal, diving athletically to his right to parry and then gather his shot.
After a typically expansive passing combination from Jordan W and Charlie J the ball broke to the enigmatic Upton. Reminiscent to Frank Lampard in his pomp, Alfie U coolly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal.
The remainder of the game saw few chances for either team, with both defences tighter than Mr Fendick’s wallet on a staff night out.
Mr Bird refereed the game with aplomb, letting the game flow and playing the advantage wherever possible. This allowed the double act of Jordan Ws and Charlie J to dominate the midfield and ultimately ensure Chilwell saw out the victory with relative ease.
The quarter finals await us…Come on you Swans!
Mr Fendick’s Man of the Match: Gabriel D
Mr Lodge’s Man of the Match: Charlie J
- Lucas C - Outstanding keeper with both his hands and his feet. He made several fine saves during the game to ensure a clean sheet for the Swans.
- Ollie A - Mr. Versatile today played at right-back and looked like he had been playing there all his career. Excellent positional sense and confidence on the ball defined a fine display by the fans’ favourite.
- Ethan H - EH at left-back had the daunting task of marking Toot Hills best player (Lincoln City academy player) and ‘speed merchant’. EH has outstanding pace and is particularly strong in the tackle, negating the impact of the Toot Hill danger man.
- Charlie J - Playing in central midfield CJ has matured into a real powerhouse of a player. Very composed on the ball and extremely strong in the tackle. CJ was outstanding alongside JW in the middle of the park.
- Gabriel D - GD was asked to operate at centre half by Mr Fendick today. This proved a master stroke as GD dominated the oppositions’ strikers and looked a natural in this new position.
- Jake B - JB played alongside GD at centre half and really is a warrior like competitor. Strong in the air and in the tackle, Bench was impeccable at the back throughout.
- Amiero D - Mr Fendick asked AD to play in an old fashioned ‘inside right’ position. AD was full of vigour and verve throughout and entertained a partisan Chilwell crowd with his pace and trickery.
- Jordan W - JW played central midfield and proved to be the perfect foil to the robust Jackson. JW ticks all the boxes as a footballer: outstanding first touch, excellent passer, brilliant dribbler and a competitive spirit that inspires those around him. Our midfield playmaker ran the show from start to finish.
- Luke B - LB is a very technical player, blessed with explosive pace and intelligent movement. He ran the Toot Hill defence ragged at times, creating space for KB and AU to exploit.
- Alfie U - AU is flourishing into a very gifted player, meaning he had no issue playing wide on the left. He always seems to have time on the ball and has now added goal-scoring to his impressive technical CV. Collecting the ball on the edge of the area he calmly slotted home into the left bottom corner, to score the only goal of the game. A class act throughout.
- Kanye B - KB makes the ‘beautiful game’ look easy. His first touch is a delight to watch and his ability to glide past defenders at times proved too much for the Toot Hill defence. A special player and a delight to watch.
- Riley O - Famous ‘Super Subs’ David Fairclough, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Divock Origi. We can now add the name of RO to that illustrious list. RO played as a striker for the final 15 minutes and his physical presence and strong running caused defensive headaches for Toot Hill as Chilwell closed out the game.
- Ben F - based on BF’s performance’s in earlier fixtures he can count himself unfortunate not the be selected in the starting eleven. However a fine display after coming on as a substitute will certainly give Mr Fendick a selection headache in the next round.
