U14s County Cup. Joseph Whitaker 2 - Chilwell 3
Chilwell under 14s got their season off to a strong start coming through a tough away fixture despite missing six regular starters.
It would impossible to choose a man of the match from Kheone Darby who scored a superb hat trick, Angus Teng who changed the game in midfield with his technical skill and selfless play, and Olli Lawton who drove the team on continually and led the fightback with his strong, quick, driving counterattacks.
The first half was almost all defending, and the defence were superp battling against strong winds and despite going 2-0 down, Chilwell kept their cool and regained control of midfield after a reshuffle and got back to 2-1.
The 2nd half was all Chilwell as they got the ball down and played the flowing attacking football that is becoming synonymous with this excellent cohort of players. But for a controversial disallowed goal from the superb Olli Lawton the game would have been comfortably sewn up earlier, instead a top corner strike from Kheone Darby sealed the game 5 minutes from time.
There was much singing and jubilation as the team returned home and a real belief that this could be the year they get to a final, or better.
