Year eleven football: Chilwell school 7 - Nottingham Academy 2
On Thursday, Mr Taylor, recently appointed as Head Coach, pulled off a masterstroke in playing Morgan as a traditional number 9 and the effervescent Gale in a deeper lying ‘number 10’ role.
Despite this being the first time they had played together, their natural chemistry ensured a torrid afternoon for visiting defence.
Taylor in goal, commanded his robust defence of Shepherd, Dickens, Jackson and Baldwin to allow limited shots on goal. Dickens and Jackson were dominant throughout in the air, and the full backs were pushing on to overload the midfield at every opportunity.
Willows was the midfield maestro (despite being Nottingham Forest U16s first choice keeper) in tandem with the industrious Parry.
Ajani Hodges stole the show with possibly the most acrobatic of finishes ever seen in school football. Willows crossed into the area, and Hodges pirouetted, jumped and then back healed the ball on the volley into the net, sending the watching crowd to Elysium.
Great finishes by Morgan, Gale and Willows crowned an astonishingly good performance from Mr Taylor’s newly assembled squad.
