Coronavirus - 16th March 2020
I am informing all students this week on the developments that are taking place that may affect their education during the period of the coronavirus outbreak.
Our first priority is always the safety and well being of staff and students and we remain open, but are aware that there are some families that are already self-isolating. We have updated our absence procedures so that we can track which students and families are affected and ensure that they can return to school at the appropriate time. Please ensure that if your child is off school, that you complete the absence information on WeDuc so that we can keep our information up to date.
Staff have been working hard to ensure that resources and materials are available to students in the event of a school closure. If this occurs, we will contact you with all the information your child needs to access on line learning.
The school remains open at present and we are aware that children may have concerns about their education and well-being issues. Our staff will continue to ensure that Chilwell remains an environment where children can seek support and have concerns addressed.
The issue of examinations is clearly one that continues to be a focus for students in years eleven and thirteen. When we have further information on this, I will inform you, but my message continues to be one of revising and preparing for examinations as currently published.
The school has in place a plan to support students who are eligible for free school meals in the event of a school closure. We will issue arrangements for this to those families concerned.
Finally, whilst we sent out notification of the date of the year seven parents’ evening (26th March) on WeDuc, we have now made the decision to postpone this event until later in the year. We are also postponing the sixth form parents evening on 2nd April. We will give further information on the new date for these events when we are able.
