6th December 2024

Today we said farewell to one of our community with the funeral and celebration of life of Omari.

A number of staff and students have been able to attend and my thanks to all of the staff in school who have helped enable this. We wish his family and friends strength and support from the events today.

End of term
A reminder that the end of term is on Friday 20th December. Students will finish school at 12.00pm with the school bus scheduled for shortly afterwards.

Christingle
On Monday evening, the Chilwell family of schools gathered for our annual Christingle celebration. It was a lovely evening, with everyone in fine voice. Thank you to our students who made it such a great evening.

Chilwell Croquet
We were delighted to hear of the success of Declan M, one of our ex students in representing England at the Under 21 Croquet World Championship in Florida next year. This builds on his success in leading Chilwell to a win against Winchester College in the summer. We are really pleased that Declan will be joining us to continue with his Duke of Edinburgh activities - https://www.trycroquet.co.uk/nottingham-juniors/

Parents consultation evenings
The last of this term's consultation evenings took place on Thursday for parents and carers of year nine students. Next term will bring decisions regarding options for year nine students and we wish them well with their choices.

Nottingham Panthers
We would like to offer our students and families an opportunity to attend the Nottingham Panthers vs. Coventry Blaze match at a discounted rate as part of the Panthers Community Programme. Tickets are just £13.80 each—a saving of £9.40 off the regular price. This game will take place on Saturday 18th January at 7pm.

This offer is available for Chilwell students, their immediate family, or a guest of their choice. It’s a great chance to enjoy an exciting evening of ice hockey together!

In addition, for every ticket sold through this promotion, £2 will be donated to Chilwell School at the end of our season. Tickets are available until Monday, 13th January 2025, at Noon. The link to purchase tickets has been sent to parents via our Arbor message of this blog.

SEND provision in Nottinghamshire
I was meeting again yesterday as a member of the working party looking at SEND provision across the local authority and how pressures on the demand for support can best be met through mainstream and specialist provision. This builds on the successful work that our school continues to undertake with Nottinghamshire Parent Carer Forum and we will continue to push the case for effective provision and creative solutions to support students and families.

Free school meals
We want to make sure as many eligible pupils as possible are claiming their free school meals. We use the Department for Education's free school meals eligibility checking system to determine eligibility.

To apply, you will need to register and provide:

  • your National Insurance Number or National Asylum Support Service Reference Number
  • your last name
  • your date of birth

If your entitlement to free school meals cannot be assessed through the eligibility checking system, they will let you know.  If you think you are eligible to the benefits listed below you can provide the local authority with more details for a manual assessment.

You can apply for free school meals online or by contacting us on 0300 500 80 80.  Alternatively you can complete an application form.

Reminder to Parents and Carers
We kindly remind you that meetings with staff members can only take place if a prior appointment has been arranged. This ensures that our team can dedicate their full attention to your concerns while continuing to meet the needs of all students during their busy schedules.

If you would like to speak with a specific member of staff, please contact the school office to arrange an appointment at a mutually convenient time.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us manage our time effectively for the benefit of the entire school community.

**PLEASE NOTE** Calls may be monitored or recorded for training and quality purposes.
