There have been number of changes in the UK voting arrangements and so we have provided information to our students on the need to have the appropriate ID and to have ensured they have registered to vote. With our focus on the importance of students sharing their voice, we certainly do not want them disenfranchised from determining the future of their local and national community.

New block

Work on the new block is now underway, with fencing in place, construction workers on site and machinery on its way to start the construction. We will keep you updated with developments as the new teaching space takes shape!

Exams

Formal examinations started this week with practical examinations in art and textiles, with photography and 3D design practicals next week. Students in years thirteen and eleven are now on the cusp of the main examination season and so we wish them the best in this lead up to the next stage of their education.

Mindfulness

With examinations comes a level of stress and we continue to support students with structured revision support and strategies to help. However, we are also aware that stress is not just something that affects students but parents as well. Nottinghamshire Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services are offering all parents the opportunity to apply for their upcoming Mindfulness Course in May. There is no need to have a child referred to take part and it exists primarily to support any parent experiencing some stress or low mood.

Girls rugby and cricket

We have been developing opportunities for more sport within and out of school and are pleased to promote the events below, aimed at girls in the Beeston area.

STEM success

On Wednesday we had a truly fantastic experience taking part in the IET Faraday Challenge hosted by the University of Derby competing against four other schools from across the East Midlands. Nine of our brightest scientists took part in the challenge, here’s what Edward had to say about the event, ‘an exciting and engaging day that encouraged me to learn more about careers in engineering’.

Although the specific details of the design brief are top secret (IET rules) what we can tell you is that our students showed enthusiasm, outstanding design skills, exemplary teamwork and perseverance. Team two’s design was highly commended with team one being declared the overall winners! We’re keeping a close eye on the league table to see where we place nationally in the hope that we will be invited back to the competition finals.

All students taking part in the day have been awarded a CREST Award and a Faraday Engineering Award.

We can’t wait to go back next year!
