22nd September 2023
This week has seen the start of our Cygnus provision and extending the opportunities for our students. In addition, we have been reviewing with subject and faculty leaders our provision and outcomes from last year so that we continue to maintain and develop strong results.
Weather
It has been good to see so many students arriving with umbrellas or waterproof jackets as we hit the autumn weather this week. Please can parents ensure that students have appropriate clothing to protect them on the way to and from school.
School travel - safety
Whilst it is a pleasure to greet students and parents as they arrive at school, we have some concerns about safety. I received a concern from a member of the public this week regarding the road sense of a student cyclist and so please can parents ensure that sensible cycling habits are reinforced. In addition, we also have a number of car drivers causing a hazard when entering and leaving the school site. Our priority is the students' welfare and so please avoid the following:
- Stopping on the double yellow lines
- Stopping on the zebra crossing
- Parking in disabled spaces unless authorised to do so
- Encouraging students to cross the car park in front of traffic
- Accelerating up or down the main access road
The vast majority of car drivers are very sensitive to the safety of our students and the numbers of pedestrians that are around at the beginning and end of the day, but the small number of drivers not adhering to these requests cause a hazard and a tailback of traffic.
16-19 Bursary Fund - Post 16

New systems
A massive thank you to families for transitioning across to our two new systems, iPay and Class Charts. Our participation percentages are looking really good. If you haven't yet registered to either iPay or Class Charts, please do so by following the relevant links. If you are having any issues with access, please contact the office directly.
sQuid
If you have any previous balances for catering that have not yet transferred to iPay, please take a screenshot of your pending fund that has not yet been collected and send this to kitchen@chilwellschool.co.uk. They will then manually transfer this amount. Any previous balances from trips and offers will need to be refunded directly from sQuid.
Communication
We always welcome the opportunity to meet with parents. If it is an urgent safeguarding concern we will see you immediately - if it is to discuss another concern or to meet with a member of staff for information during the working day, please make an appointment. Our staff are teaching most of the time and will not be able to see parents without appointments.
I would also like to remind parents that we do our best to respond to emails and calls as quickly as possible and we aim to respond in twenty four hours during the working week. We can not always guarantee to be able to answer within the same morning or afternoon.
