3rd March 2023

We have had a number of thanks over the past couple of weeks, not only from Hope charity above, but also from the Trussell Trust, for whom we were raising money through a non uniform day before Christmas. In a couple of weeks time on Friday 17th March, it will be Comic Relief and we hope to continue the positive contribution made by everyone in the school to support others.

Thanks
In addition, it was good to receive compliments from both theatre visitors and park visitors who congratulated our students on their attitude and behaviour at events where we had direct contact with members of the public. We are conscious that the actions of our students have an impact on all whom they meet and it was good to receive these messages which reflect the behaviour of the vast majority of our students.

Primary sports days
We are in the process of making arrangements to support our primary school partners with their summer events and already have support in place for the sports day at The Lanes on Thursday 22nd June. Our sports leaders always make an excellent contribution to these days whilst gaining valuable leadership experience.

Strike action
Wednesday of this last week saw another day of strike action as a result of the dispute between the NEU and the government over educational provision. I mentioned in my blog in January the pressure on schools being able to recruit staff to ensure that our children get high quality and expert subject staff in the classroom. We currently have a number of vacancies for both teaching and support staff and will continue to find our own solutions to ensure that students get the best possible support.

Defibrillator
Parents and visitors may have noticed the defibrillator that is on the wall at the front of the school. We are really pleased that this is another provision in place for the well-being of our community.

Hong Kong exhibition
Over next weekend we are pleased to be hosting an exhibition on the richness of culture and history of Hong Kong and its people. There will be an opportunity to explore the language, food and art as well as hear talks on culture and ideas.

Shoe poverty
Please support us in reducing footwear poverty and reduce  footwear waste and its impact on the environment.
We would like to restock our personal supply of school shoes/football boots/trainers. All other footwear surplus to requirements will be donated to Shoe Aid. A charity based in Nottinghamshire supporting the local community.

Footwear that can be donated; trainers, football boots, walking and outdoor shoes/boots, Wellingtons (men’s, women's and children), safety footwear (men’s and women’s), men’s functional shoes, ladies functional shoes, children’s school shoes, children’s outdoor shoes, children’s functional everyday shoes, slippers, flip flops, anything that is footwear related, even roller blades, ice skates, horse riding boots!

Discovery Day
Friday's discovery day was a great success, with our youngest year groups on visits to Beaumanor Hall in Leicestershire and Magna science adventure centre in Sheffield. Older students were looking at future planning, with year nine students exploring option subjects, and year ten welcoming a range of visitors to discuss careers and future job prospects. Thank you to all of our visitors, partners organisations and staff for ensuring that our students again had a wonderful day.

**PLEASE NOTE** Calls may be monitored or recorded for training and quality purposes.
