3rd February 2023

A really eventful week with education featuring as a major item in the news and also sporting success, planning with our partner primary schools, looking to next academic year and supporting our examination students.

Industrial action

The national strike by the NEU on Wednesday of this week had a significant impact across the country and Chilwell School had a number of year groups working at home as a result of this industrial action. At present it seems that there has been no progress in negotiations with the department of education and so as a school we need to plan for the published further action this term. A reminder that the dates of industrial action are Wednesday 1st March and Wednesday and Thursday 15th and 16th March. We will keep parents updated on plans but please be prepared for disruption on these dates.

Football success

On Thursday, our year eight students achieved a great result in the South Notts Cup. Further information can be found here.

Year eleven support

In November we identified and met with a number of students in year eleven who needed further support and guidance with preparing for the summer examinations. We have met with a number of these students again this week and next and this will provide additional strategies to ensure that there is a planned and considered approach to revision. The year group in general has really shown commitment over the last few months and we look forward to positive outcomes for them as well as our year thirteen students. It also means that we can target our support for a small group of students who may benefit from mentoring.

Primary partners

I met with our primary partner head teachers on Friday and we look forward to working with them on a number of events including sports days and arts events. Further news on these will be published over the next few months.
