It has been a challenge this week with managing the cold weather, but students and staff have been wonderful.
Winter Support Payment
Communication from Nottinghamshire County Council was sent out to eligible families on the 7th December 2022. Letters should be received a few days after posting, however due to the Royal Mail strikes there may be some delays in them arriving.
Letters will have full instructions on how households can apply for support and how much support they are eligible for. The letters will contain a number which is unique to the household that will be required in order to make an application.

Vouchers will not be issued by Chilwell School. If you have not received a letter and think you should be eligible, please contact Nottinghamshire County Council directly.
Group A strep information
Following on from the advice issued in the letter we sent home today from the UK Health Security Agency regarding Group A streptococcus infections (also known as Group A strep, strep A or GAS) I want to share with you some links and information that you may find useful.
Group A strep is a common bacteria which can cause a range of infections, but they are usually mild. There has been a slight increase in cases this year nationally, which are being investigated; it is thought not to be a new strain but more likely due to a number of factors, including more social mixing and increases in other respiratory illnesses.

Further sporting success over the last week, with fifteen students having qualified for the Nottinghamshire Cross Country Qualifiers. Well done to them!
Competition time!
The history department in association with the Historical Association are running a 'Write your own historical fiction competition'? It is open to all year groups and can be set in any period or place. The theme is coronation. Their story can be about a real coronation and the events surrounding it – whether it’s an Egyptian ruler, the Oba of Benin, the last French king or the first English queen. The winning stories from each key stage will be entered into a national competition. The deadline for entries is Friday 10th February.
Mock examinations
I referred to the weather above and a special thank you to our students in years eleven and thirteen who have been facing examinations in the sports hall and activities room which are challenging areas to keep warm. Thank you to all of them for coming prepared, getting on with things and continuing to do their best.
