16th September 2022

Colleagues from the original Chilwell School staff met on Monday 12th to celebrate fifty years since the start of the school.

Over thirty people gathered to share memories of when the school opened and the early years as Chilwell school established itself in the heart of the Beeston and Chilwell community.

I was pleased to join them and it was an opportunity for those present to reminisce about the first comprehensive school in the area and how the school established itself over the years to be at the forefront of educational practice.

With the school now in its fiftieth year, I was able to talk about the proud history of the school and hopes for the future, with the school having grown considerably over the past few years and maintaining its place in leading educational provision in the area.

We shared archive material and it was fascinating to see the cost of school uniform in 1972!

We plan other opportunities in the year for past students and staff members to join us on site to celebrate the fiftieth year.

Google classroom

We are continuing to share our learning and homework through Google classroom, but we are aware that some students have experienced some issues accessing the materials. We are resolving this with our ICT partner organisation and this should be stabilised as we move into next week.

Catering opportunities

Our catering providers are Nottinghamshire County Council Catering. They are recruiting and have two positions available within our newly revamped Bistro and main canteen. If you are interested, please follow the link for further information.

School closure - Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II

A reminder that the school will be closed on Monday, re-opening as usual on Tuesday 20th September.

Open evening

A reminder that our open evening will be on Thursday 29th September. We are looking forward to welcoming families and to be able to share with you what an education at Chilwell School is like.

Sixth form welcome evening - 22nd September 6.00pm

We will be running a welcome evening for parents of sixth form students on 22nd September. This will offer an overview of our sixth form provision and arrangements for supporting year twelve students as they start their A level studies and year thirteen students consider their applications for the next stage of education, whether that be university or further training. We will issue WeDuc invitation codes on the day.

**PLEASE NOTE** Calls may be monitored or recorded for training and quality purposes.
