The day was very successful and thanks to all the staff who planned the wide range of activities from creative activities in year seven to personal and social education in year nine and revision strategies in year eleven.

We are in the process now of transition for families whose children are moving from primary to secondary and again I welcome our new readers of the weekly blog.

Ukraine appeal

After the success of our immediate appeal for resources to help victims in Ukraine, we have now launched a further appeal. Details of this can be found here - Ukraine appeal - and we invite any one who is able to continue to help us make a difference. Our students have been keen to ensure they understand the situation and what we can do to help.

Comic Relief

We are also preparing for the fund raising for Comic Relief through our Red Nose Day activities next week. On Friday 18th, we invite the school community to arrive at school wearing something silly and to bring a donation. I have been very proud of our ability to raise funds for causes over the past few years and so please give if able.

Pupil Premium

As a school we are very aware that there is significant need not only abroad but at home too and within our own communities. It is important that we continue to point out the various benefits and funds that families can access if in need, so please take some time to read the information on free school meals and pupil premium and claim if eligible. It not only brings financial benefit to the family, but also provides additional resources at school to help with learning.

Team work

The Chilwell symbol of the swan is one that Mr Hobbs has been talking about to year six students in assemblies recently at our partner primary schools. Whilst it is always a pleasure to see our swans on the lake, it is sometimes more awesome to see a large group flying in a V formation. As the swans fly they take it in turns to lead the group and shoulder the responsibility. I am grateful for all of our Chilwell staff swans for their work over the last week, term and years. In addition, I am especially grateful to our governing body, who ensure that the school is accountable to the local community. There has been some discussion in the media this week of the lack of local accountability to parents and the community from multi-academy trusts. At Chilwell, as a foundation school, the governing body is an important and powerful part of the school and has a vital role in protecting children and the long term future of the school. Over the last week the governing body has been involved in communication on a national basis as well as on the detail of provision for children on a daily basis. Thank you to our parent and staff governors, co-opted, and foundation governors for the part they all play.
