Students will be receiving their individual timetables for the assessments that start on the 21st February and tutors have gone through the arrangements with their groups this week.

We intend that the examinations will cause as little disruption as possible and so lessons will continue where possible through the examination period, allowing students to continue developing their knowledge and understanding across the curriculum.  

SEND survey

I would like to draw the attention of parents and carers to the SEND survey that was issued as a new item last week. Please take the time to complete the survey so that the local authority can have a clear view of provision for young people across the county.

Duke of Edinburgh Bronze expedition

I am delighted that we have a large group of students going out on their bronze expedition this weekend. We wish them well and thank all the staff who are giving up part of their weekend to supervise. We hope that the weather stays fine for them!

Crisis team / CAMHS

There are a number of events available for parents from CAMHS below. Please take the opportunity to contribute and make the service even stronger.

Uniform swap

We will be holding a uniform swap event next Thursday 10th February between 3pm and 4pm. If you have uniform that you would like to exchange or buy at reduced prices, please come along. This event will focus on blazers and jumpers.

Masks

A reminder of my message of 21st January that where possible, students continue to wear masks, not directly for their own protection, but in the shared responsibility we have for each other's health and well-being. We are aware that the decision will be different for different students and families, but those who wish to continue to wear masks at all times will be welcomed and supported.

Fire alarms

It is disappointing to report that as well as a significant number of positive news items and an ongoing commitment by the vast majority of students to work hard and approach their studies with a positive attitude, we have had a number of fire alarms this week which were triggered deliberately. First, I want to reassure parents that we always take fire alarms seriously and ensure that everyone is safe. I am also pleased to report that the students responsible for deliberately activating them were identified within minutes through both the vigilance of our staff and a significant number of other students.

We will not tolerate disruption to learning and Chilwell school will not indulge behaviour that is inadequate. The students involved have been excluded and are aware that they have put their place at Chilwell at risk.

Music success

I will give further details next week, but it was a pleasure to spend a small part of my day listening to the awe inspiring performances of some of our key stage four music students. There are treasured moments in a teacher's week when we are able to witness exceptional talent and commitment. Every time it happens it makes the job worth every minute. Today was one of those days. We are very fortunate to have such talented students in our community.
