Our year eleven intervention sessions have been really well attended and it is good to see so many students planning and preparing for their examinations this summer. In addition, we received the results of the intermediate mathematics challenge and it was good to see how many of our students had performed well.

In addition, our sporting achievements have been immense this week, with a 12-0 win for the year eight team following on from the 5-2 win last week by our year sevens.

Our extra-curricular activities have broadened, with the addition of a dance club. This will be taking place on Tuesdays from 3.15 to 4.15pm and is open to all students. We are planning for great things for our dancers, with an eye on the family of schools dance festival in May.

Less positively, we have dealt with a number of situations this week of students bringing in to school issues that have been started or exacerbated through social media. We are clear in our expectations that phones should be off and away in school so that students can concentrate on their learning. It is really important that students are given the opportunity to grow and develop through their learning and so I would ask that parents be vigilant about their child's use of their phone and their engagement with social media so that they are not distracted from their learning.

Next week we look forward to Discovery day on Wednesday and Comic Relief on Friday. Our discovery days continue to be a unique and enjoyable way to offer a range of extra-curricular opportunities and on Friday, there are already a number of activities planned for lunchtime. I hope that as many students as possible will dress up for the day, contribute to charity, take part in the activities as well as enjoy another day of learning.
