16th October 2020

We have made it to half-term and again I want to pass on my thanks to all parents as well as our students and staff for a successful return to school.

There are of course, regrets, and I am sorry that we have a number of students and families who are self-isolating as a result of positive cases that we have experienced. I hope that students have continued with their learning using the classroom resources on google classroom so that they can return after the half-term break without too much learning missed.

Thank you again for the patience that you have had when we have had to take action. I am pleased that our quick and clear action has meant that we have been able to minimise the disruption to the school and to learning. As I write this I am fully aware that there is a meeting with the Nottinghamshire MPs and that our county may well enter a higher tier of Covid-19 alert. We will do everything we can to ensure that the school is open for business after the break and we would urge all families to follow the guidance in place so that as many people as possible can be back in school on Monday 2nd November.

Whilst it also seems a minor matter, thank you to all the parents who are following our request to drop students off at the far side of the car park. It means we are able to keep a steady flow of traffic and pedestrians onto the site, though where possible, if students can walk to school, it would be much appreciated.

We would also ask that any parents with dogs who are dropping off or picking up students that they keep them on a lead (the dogs, not the students!) We appreciate that most dogs are friendly and used to large groups, but not all of our students are as comfortable, so please keep your dog on a lead and under tight supervision.

Please also always refer to official school communications for important information about the school and notices that we send you. We do our best to keep you informed, but it is always best to seek a response to questions from school, rather than on social media.

Finally, we remain as committed as ever to ensuring that the most vulnerable are supported and our commitment to ensuring students and families are fed is as important now as when we campaigned for it in the spring. Please make your representation so that the issue can be discussed at the highest level - End child food poverty

I have also been asked to make families aware of resources available for anyone facing financial challenges through the half-term break. The following information has come from Broxtowe Community Projects:

We are able to offer food parcel deliveries to people living in NG9 & NG16 postcodes, these parcels are targeted at families on low incomes who are struggling to afford food and also to families who are self isolating and do not have family/friends who are able to deliver food.

We offer a drop in collections at our Beeston base on a Monday & Friday from 10am-1pm, this is open to anyone who is in need of support. Our address is 106 Chilwell Road, Beeston, NG9 1ES.

On Fridays we have meals available via the Open Kitchens initiative, these are offered for delivery to families in the Beeston & Chilwell area, priority goes to families on low incomes or self isolating.

Finally on a Saturday we run a street stall sharing surplus food we have following all food parcel deliveries. The stall runs from 10.30-12.30 and is open to all in the community.

Please pass on the details of these services to any families you feel could benefit from our help and support. Families may request support by email or texting/calling 07434 664174

We are also in the process of transitioning the food bank to be managed by a new charity 'Broxtowe Community Projects' - we will be offering similar services as well as new initiatives. We are currently fundraising for the start up costs and further information can be found here.
