17th January 2020

We welcomed a new cohort of new recruits to the teaching profession this week.

Chilwell has long been associated with teacher training and we were pleased to welcome our group of new teacher trainees this week. On their second placement, they have already spent some time in local schools and bring a new dimension to the work of our school.

New teachers work in a number of different subjects , supported and guided by an experienced teacher. Our training programme, run by Ms Ault and supervised by Mr Sweeney is regularly identified as a source of good practice and our new teachers have already immersed themselves in the life of the school.

It was a good week to arrive, as on Thursday we also had the second of our discovery days. For year elevens, this involved receiving their mock examination results and then spending the day preparing personal action plans and starting the next stage of their revision. With sixteen weeks to go, the examination season will soon be with us and it is important that revision now becomes a regular part of each student's day.

We also had good news on the sports front, with our year eleven football team progressing to the quarter finals of the county cup and our year seven basketball team being crowned Broxtowe basketball champions. I am very proud of the success of our students and we wish both teams well in their future games.
