News from the sixth form
UCAS
UCAS applications are completed and offers are coming through! This is very exciting for our Year 13 as their next steps become more and more real. 50% of the students who have applied to University have Russell Group offers – this is very impressive and I am so very pleased for them. Now begins the real hard work to unsure the offers received are achieved.
National Apprenticeship Week
This week is National Apprenticeship week and the Year 13 are investigating what Degree and Higher Apprenticeships are on offer; whilst Year 12 are completing activities in the very helpful National Apprenticeship pack and we are challenging the students’ knowledge with their useful and fun quizzes.
Volunteering
Our Year 12 are involved in contributing to the wider community by supporting pupils with their learning across the curriculum and year groups. This is proving to be very beneficial to the Year 12 and to the students they are supporting. Mrs Lawrence is particularly pleased with this initiative.
Duke of Edinburgh
Six of the year 13 completed their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. This is a big deal. It shows that they have the skills, determination and mentality to really succeed. They are now eagerly awaiting for their invitation to the Gold Award Presentation which will be attended by a Member of The Royal Family when they will receive their certificate.
Discovery Day
Year 12 had a very enjoyable day out of school for Discovery Day 2. They went to three art galleries in the City – Bonington, Backlit and Lakeside. It was great to see the students appreciating the work of both local and national artists – and experiencing first-hand the artists working in their studios.
Sixth form applications
Scheduled interviews for next year’s Year 12 are now complete. Letters confirming places have been sent home. If anyone would still like an interview please contact Mrs Fyles.
Environment
This year’s Year 12 are very environmentally conscious. They were determined to ensure that paper was recycled in every classroom in the school. They managed to secure funding from Broxtowe council to ensure that this could happen, and even better – they are now able to collect plastic bottles too! Well done to them and a big thank you to Broxtowe council.
