With our sixth form open evening and year twelve taster day on Thursday, it was really good to be able to look to future plans for our students. The year eleven students were wonderful, sampling A level courses and college opportunities as well as considering options for the future. Our evening session for parents allowed further discussion of the range of courses. For more information, please see our sixth form section.
At the same time there are significant issues which we are addressing in school to ensure we keep our students safe and learning.
Masks
Parents will be aware that the national alert level has been raised with regard to the coronavirus. I am reminding you of our expectations of all students wearing masks during movement time and at breaks and lunch, when passing in close contact with an increased number of students. We will be implementing this from Monday 5th October. Students will be reminded before leaving the classroom to put on a mask. Parents should ensure that students leave for school in the morning with the necessary face masks. Students should arrive on the school site in a mask and only remove it when seated in the classroom.
Google classroom and homework
Now that we have our resources and tasks on google classroom, I have asked staff not to duplicate information and so homework is no longer appearing on WeDuc. Instead, we are enabling an email summary to go to parents which gives information on the tasks and homework set. It means that staff do not have to spend time on repeating information and all parents can receive updates on work.
What’s included in an email summary?

Missing work—Work not turned in when the summary was sent.

Upcoming work—Work that’s due today and tomorrow (for daily emails) or that’s due in the upcoming week (for weekly emails).

Class activity—Announcements, assignments, and questions recently posted by teachers.
Guardians who sign up for email summaries will not be able to see the classwork, people, or grades pages in google classroom. Please look out for the invitation to receive these email summaries in your inbox over the next day or two.
Dressing for the weather
As the days get colder, we want all students to stay warm. The current situation presents some challenges, as we will be keeping windows open for ventilation. We expect all students to wear school uniform but please ensure that students leave the house dressed warmly. Please also be aware that if there is a downpour, we will put wet break arrangements in place, but we are keen to only use this when absolutely necessary.
